Series & Parallel Connection in Batteries

Most of us do not know how to connect a battery either in series or parallel. A series connection is done when a greater voltage is needed. A parallel connection is done when a greater capacity is needed.

Batteries joined in Series

Same voltage i.e. V = 6 Volts

Capacity of both batteries are added i.e. 10 + 10 = 20Ah

So, ratings are 6 V, 20 Ah

Batteries joined in Parallel

Voltages of both batteries are added i.e. V = 6 + 6 = 12 Volts

Same Capacity i.e. 10Ah

So, ratings are 12 V, 10 Ah

Batteries joined in Series and Parallel

Voltages of both batteries are added i.e. V = 6 + 6 = 12 Volts

Capacity of both batteries are added i.e. 10 + 10 = 20Ah

So, ratings are 12 V, 20 Ah
