Why Is My Ceiling Fan Not Working On All Speeds?

In different seasons, there are different requirements of the temperature in the room. Ceiling fans are installed in the room to make the airflow comfortable and to maintain the temperature. A speed controller is also connected to the fan for changing the speed of the fan according to the requirement. But because of some reasons, the speed of the fan won’t change or even stop for some speeds. In this article, let’s look at some reasons for ceiling fan not working on all speeds.

Why Is My Ceiling Fan Not Working at a Slow Speed?

Your ceiling fan is not working at a slow speed due to following reasons.

Faulty capacitor

If the ceiling fan is old, the capacitor may have some problems due to overheating, improper wiring, etc. The bad capacitor can create issues for all the speeds. So check the capacitor regularly and maintain it.

Problem in the control box

If the condenser is proper but the fan is not working at a slow speed, there might be a problem in the control box of the fan. You can replace the control box and rectify the problem.

Issues in the motor cap

If you have checked the above two issues, but still, the ceiling fan is not working properly then the reason can be the motor cap. You can inspect the motor cap and replace it if there is any problem.

Why Is My Ceiling Fan Not Working at a Fast Speed?

Your ceiling fan is not working at a fast speed due to following reasons.

Less lubrication

Lubrication is mandatory for the ceiling fan to work properly. If the oil filled in the fan is less, or it is reduced after some days, the fan will not spin fast. So make sure you fill the oil reservoir of the fan frequently.

Old or imbalanced blades

Blades of the ceiling fan collect the dust particles on their surface. This can lead to loss of balance of the blades. So clean the blades regularly. The second issue could be old blades. You can repair the blades or simply replace them with new one.

Loose screws

If the screws are loose, they can create multiple problems to the fan, like noise, slow speed, etc. If you recognize the screws are loose, you need to tightly fit them for smooth working of the fan.

Why is the Speed of the Ceiling Fan not Changing?

Pull cord issues

If the speed of the fan is stuck on high, the capacitor will not be the cause. It can be an issue with the pull cord. Like, the pull cord may have broken or disconnected. You can fix it.

Failure of bearings

If bearings are old or damaged due to some reason, the fan can be stuck at high speed. In this case, you will have to replace the bearings with new ones.

Final Words

There are multiple reasons for the problem of ceiling fan not working on all speeds. We have explained a few of them here.
