Parametric and Non-Parametric Models

In this article, we will learn the basic difference between Parametric and Non-Parametric Models

Parametric Models

  1. It represents the relation between input and output by means of equations.
  2. It contains the finite number of explicit parameters.
  3. Model coefficients are not known exactly.
  4. White box models are the parametric models.
  5. For example: differential equations in mathematical model.

Non-Parametric Models

  1. It represents the relation between input and output by means of a table or curve.
  2. It does not exhibit a certain structure.
  3. Model coefficients are more precise for the given system within operating limits.
  4. It has infinite dimensions.
  5. Black box models are the non-parametric models.
  6. For example: impulse response, step response, frequency response, etc.
