Electric Cars Advantages and Disadvantages

An electric car is a vehicle that is driven by an electric motor rather than the conventional IC engine. The electric motors used in electric cars are powered by rechargeable batteries that can be charged by common household electricity. The industry of electric cars is growing fast with time. In this article, we will see electric cars advantages and disadvantages.

Advantages of electric cars

With fast-growing technologies, the industry of electric vehicles becomes more mainstream. From the positive environmental impacts to saving the non-renewable energies found on the earth, electric cars help a lot. The maintenance cost, driving, and many other features of an electric car are very good and economical.

Some of the advantages of an electric car are discussed as follows:

1. Cost of electric cars

For long-term driving, electric cars are one of the outstanding choices. It is an excellent investment for the one who looks for a cheap, but more efficient way to get around. The cost of buying a normal car driven on petrol or diesel engine depends on the type, model, material, and features of the car. It also happens in the case of electric cars. But the electric car is more cost-effective and good for the long run. Also, the mass production of batteries and available tax incentives further brought down the cost of electric cars. The battery life of an electric car is long as the capacity of a lithium-ion battery is good and lasts for long.

2. Maintenance of electric cars

The running and maintenance cost of an electric car is cheaper than that of normal petrol or diesel-driven car. From tax incentives and social government grants to enhance fuel efficiency, the cost of electricity is lower and the required maintenance is reduced. Electric cars are efficiently designed which have the main three components: the onboard charger, the inverter, and the motor. The electric car requires minimum servicing and less repairing costs.

3. Impact of electric cars on the environment

Fully electric cars have zero tailpipe emissions which help to maintain nature cleaner and greener. There is no scope to create pollution by an electric car. The greenhouse gases cannot be emitted due to the absence of the tailpipe in the electric car which gives a sustainable environment along with the less use of non-renewable energy sources. Electric cars can be considered environmentally friendly. The noise production of electric cars is also less.

4. Charging of electric cars

The electric car is driven by electricity from the battery. The charging of an electric car means the charging of the battery of the car. It is easy to charge the battery even at home. The charging is cost-efficient, fast, and also simple. Electric cars can be charged like mobile phones by sampling plugging in the charging cable when the cars are parked up. The fully charged time of an electric car is around 8 to 12 hours.

5. Driving experiences

The driving of an electric car is very comfortable. It can give a relaxing as well as easy driving. The electric car has instant torque that means that the driver has the power right at their fingertips. As soon as the accelerator is hit, it gives an instant response and surge of speed from the car. The electric car is an ideal driving option for cities. Since the battery of an electric car is on its floor, it provides weight distribution in the car and balance. In the world of automobiles, the electric car provides a simple driving method.

Also, the safety measure that is available in electric cars is good.

6. Future aspects

The growth of the electric car and its industry refers to a bright future of electric car driving worldwide. For long-term use, electric cars are always a good choice. It will help to maintain a sustainable environment in the future too. The electric car is gaining popularity day by day with its unique designs and it is more efficient than a traditional fuel-driven car.

Disadvantages of electric cars

Like every other thing that exists in the world, the electric car also has some limitations or disadvantages. Some of those disadvantages are discussed below:

1. Limited choices

Since the electric car industry is a new concept as compared to the traditional fuel-driven car industry, hence it has limited models that can operate efficiently. The electric car industry will be able to replace the fuel-driven traditional car industry in the future. But as of now, it has fewer options for electric cars.

2. Sometimes charging is tricky

In case of a very long drive, the charging can be a problem. Like petrol pumps, electric car charging points are not available in many places. Hence, sometimes it may create problems. The road can also be difficult in electric cars as it is difficult to find a changing station on the side of roads.

3. Running range

The distance traveled by an electric car with a fully charged battery is less than a car driven by fuel. An electric car can travel 60 to 100 miles on a full charge. But a traditional car depending on its features can be driven up to 400 miles on a tank full of fuel.

4. Time taken by the battery to get charged

The time required for the charging of an electric car is quite long. Hence, it is treated as a disadvantage of the electric car. In the traditional car, the injection of fuel hardly takes a minute or two, so in electric vehicles, it seems like a problem.

5. Cost of an electric car

The cost of an electric car is more than that of an equivalent traditional fuel-driven car. The price of an electric motor is high, and the luxuries that are provided with an electric car make the car more expensive. Also, there are very few options for electric cars are available in the market; hence it is difficult to find budget-friendly ones.
